Breeze Notecard

Breeze Notecard carries a painted still life rather than a photograph. A pale ceramic vase, wide-bellied and narrow-necked, holds an arrangement of red poppies, cream and blush roses, blue delphinium and a single orange ranunculus, painted with the softness of gouache rather than the precision of botanical illustration.

The poppies are the focus: six of them, open flat with dark centres, scattered through the arrangement at different heights so the red carries the eye around the composition. Cream roses sit lower and cooler, blue delphinium clusters at the right, and green foliage fans out on both sides in long pinnate leaves.

Two details lift it out of the ordinary. Small gilded leaves are worked through the arrangement in metallic gold, catching light where the paint does not. And three monarch butterflies hover at the edges, wings open, painted with the same soft hand as the flowers.

The ground is a warm plaster pink that appears to have texture, so the whole card reads as a painting on a wall rather than a print. Blank inside with an envelope supplied. The notecard is A6 folded with a full blank inside page. It is sent flat in a protective sleeve so the gilded detail arrives intact, and when ordered with an arrangement it travels alongside rather than inside it. Because the painted illustration already carries an arrangement of its own, it pairs best with flowers that share one or two of its colours rather than with something that competes.
