Hugs & Kisses

Hugs & Kisses is the plainest card in the range and the most versatile because of it. There is no illustration at all. The front carries a caramel-tan panel with a scalloped edge, floated inside a cream border, and three lines of type set centrally in soft lilac: big hugs & kisses, with xoxo beneath in small spaced capitals.

The typeface is a rounded serif with generous curves, warm rather than formal, and it is the only design element on the card. Setting lilac on caramel is an unusual choice and the reason the card works: two muted colours that are close in weight, so nothing shouts and the words are read rather than looked at.

The scalloped edge is cut into the printed panel rather than the card itself, which gives it a layered, applied quality. It is printed on a substantial uncoated stock in a matte finish, and a lilac envelope is supplied that picks up the lettering rather than the ground.

Because it says nothing about an occasion, it fits almost any of them: thinking of you, thank you, sorry, missing you, or a message that does not need a heading. That makes it the card to keep for when nothing else fits. Send it with anything; the softer pink and white arrangements suit it best. Browse all notecards.

The card is A6 folded with a blank inside page. Because the front carries no occasion, it is the one worth ordering more than one of and keeping to hand; there is always a week when something needs saying and no card fits. It is sent flat in a protective sleeve, and when ordered with flowers it travels beside the arrangement rather than inside it.
